International Interest Grows as AquaGreen Expands into Sweden

24-03-2026
From international delegations in Denmark to commissioning our first full-scale commercial plant in Sweden, AquaGreen continues to demonstrate how innovative wastewater solutions can accelerate the green transition across Europe.

At AquaGreen, we are privileged to welcome visitors from around the world who want to experience our technology firsthand. Policymakers, utilities, investors, engineers, and industry leaders regularly visit our facilities to see how municipal sewage sludge can be transformed into valuable resources while addressing some of today's most pressing environmental challenges.

Our latest visit was a high-level delegation from Italy. The discussions were highly technical and focused not only on AquaGreen's integrated steam drying and pyrolysis technology, but also on the broader Danish innovation ecosystem that has enabled rapid development and deployment of green technologies.
We believe Denmark's success is built on four key strengths:

  • Built to scale – Close collaboration between universities, utilities, municipalities, and industry enables technologies to move rapidly from concept to full-scale implementation.
  • Public-private collaboration – Authorities and industry work together to create practical frameworks that support innovation and demonstration rather than slowing progress.
  • Long-term commitment – Stable political ambitions provide confidence for investment, technology development, and industrial growth.
  • Trust and execution – Decisions are based on data and collaboration, allowing successful solutions to be implemented quickly while continuously improving them.

These strengths have helped position Denmark as an international leader in resource recovery, wastewater innovation, and climate technologies—an ecosystem that AquaGreen is proud to be part of.

At the same time, this international interest is translating into concrete projects across Europe.

In Stockholm, our process expert Henrik Sønderborg recently conducted operator training with the team at Roslagsvatten as commissioning progresses on AquaGreen's first full-scale commercial HECLA® Setores 1.500 plant in Sweden.

Once operational, the facility will treat municipal sewage sludge from the Stockholm region, converting it into high-quality biochar while eliminating micropollutants, reducing environmental risks, recovering renewable energy, and capturing carbon through permanent biochar carbon storage.

The Swedish installation represents an important milestone for AquaGreen and demonstrates how proven Danish technology can support utilities across Europe in achieving both environmental and climate objectives.

As more countries seek sustainable solutions for wastewater sludge management, international collaboration becomes increasingly important. Whether welcoming delegations to Denmark or supporting customers during commissioning abroad, AquaGreen remains committed to sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and accelerating the transition towards a more circular and climate-positive water sector.

Engineered for long-term carbon sequestration

HECLA® Setores (Sewage to Resources) transforms biosolids management by turning wastewater sludge into a valuable carbon-rich resource. The integrated steam-drying and pyrolysis solution enables wastewater treatment plants to produce high-value biochar while permanently sequestering carbon.
